Altamease N. Buie – long time resident of West Palm Beach, FL
peacefully passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023. She graduated
with the first class of Roosevelt High School in 1951 where she was
a Majorette with the Maroon & Gray Band. Her early career life
began as a Licensed Beautician, but she later returned to Florida A
& M University where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Education. She was employed with the Palm Beach County School
Board, where she taught at Palm Springs Elementary for 35 plus
years.
A life-long member of St. John Baptist Church, she is most
remembered as the “Church Herald” as she welcomed visitors and
guests to St. John services for 58 plus years. In her community she
volunteered with the Palm Beach Blood Bank, Salvation Army and
Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation. Altamease was also a member of
many organizations including Cosmetology Unit #5, Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Phi Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority, Inc.
where she was involved with various community forums and events.
Altamease leaves a legacy of love with her daughters Louise S.

DuVal (Alphonso) and Sylvia S. Thomas (Bennie Jr.); grand-
daughters Cybil S. Askew (Devaughn) and Kendra J. Thomas;

grandsons Bennie Thomas III (Jennifer), Barrett DuVal (Sonya) and
Darren DuVal (Keyna); and brother-in-law Rev. Joseph B. Tyson; a
host of nieces and nephews, extended family, godchildren, special
friends, neighbors and the St. John Church family.
Celebration of her life will begin with a viewing at 10:00 A.M on
Friday, September 8, 2023, 10:00 A.M. and the memorial service
immediately following at 11:00 A.M. All services will be held at St.
John Missionary Baptist Church, 2006 A. E. Isaacs Ave., WPB, FL
33407 Burial will follow at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens, WPB, FL.
