About Rohalier “Roy” Phillips, Sr

Rohalier, affectionately known as Roy, was born November 24,1936 in West Palm
Beach, Florida.
A proud product of the Palm Beach County School System, Roy grew
into a beloved figure in his hometown, where his love for basketball left a lasting legacy.
Over the years, Roy not only played the game he loved but also gave back by coaching
several local teams, inspiring countless young athletes along the way. His contributions
to the sport were formally recognized when he was inducted into the Roosevelt High School Hall of Fame
in 2019—an honor he deeply cherished.
Throughout his life, Roy held a number of positions in West Palm Beach, ultimately
retiring as a Supervisor. Known for his soft-spoken nature, warm heart, and unwavering
kindness, Roy was a gentle presence who touched the lives of many in his community.
He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but for the way he made
people feel—respected, supported, and cared for.
Roy's legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of many years, Annette Phillips, his
mother Elvinia Rowland, his father, his sister Cleopatra Robinson, and his nephew
Rohalier Phillips.
Roy is survived by three children: Anthony Phillips, Deborah McCray, Rohalier
Phillips, Jr.. He leaves behind seven grandchildren: Prince Gammage (Brittany), Deneisha
Leggett, Marquis Phillips, Rohalier “Charles” Phillips, Anita Phillips, Nyeisha
Clemons, and Toni Herndon-White (Tavon); and four great-grandchildren: Michael,
Bria, Amira, and Princeton. He is also survived by two beloved cousins, Gladys Ayers and Brenda Kindsey, and a host of other relatives and cherished friends.
